6 Reasons to Dance, Sing, Act, and Exercise at Synergy/MMSPA

1.    Safe and Pleasant Atmosphere.  Dance, tumbling, and exercise require a lot of jumping so it is important for dance floors to have a certain amount of resiliency to absorb shock.  We have gone through great lengths to provide a safe, spacious, and comfortable facility for our students. Our professional floating floors were designed specifically for dancing to promote the health and safety of our students.  Our three studios are also equipped with Marley floors which are the industry standard for professional dance companies worldwide as they provide the appropriate amount of friction and slip needed for dancing.  At Synergy a lot of extra time and energy are put forth in every area to continually improve our program.

2.    Professional Faculty.  We seek only highly trained adult instructors and also offer internships for experienced young adult dancers to assist with classes and gain valuable teaching experience for the future.

3.    Communications.  We use technology to communicate so parents can get answers 24/7.  Our website now includes a FAQ's page where we answer frequently asked questions.  We have a new handbook that each student will receive at registration that will answer basic questions that are static.  We also use email frequently to keep communications open when instructors are not busily teaching your children.

4.    Instructor/Student Ratio.  If a class is larger than 12 students, there is an assistant, especially for younger classes, to provide individual attention to students.  For little ones (3-5 yrs) I have found that a smaller ratio of 6 to 1 adult/child is needed to ensure class control and progress.

5.    Progression.  Students get attached to their studio and their teachers so it is important to select a studio where you or your child will be able to progress to increasingly higher levels with experience.  It is important to see what the higher levels are doing.  Is the quality of training evident?  We take progression very seriously at Synergy. I personally evaluate students during rehearsal/recital process to ensure appropriate placement for returning students for the following season.  I also continue professional development for myself and offer opportunities for our instructors for professional development as well to keep fresh approaches, recent techniques and learning tools, and continuity within the program.

6.    Values.   Your child spends a lot of time with his/her instructors.  It is important that those instructors exercise sound judgement in working with kids of various ages.  It is also important that students are treated with respect and are taught dance etiquette as well in a positive manner.  Corrections should be given in a constructive manner.  As director I feel very strongly that costuming should be age appropriate, that choreography produced for a recital and/or recital should be appropriate for family audiences, and music should not contain profanity or vulgarity (this can be quite a challenge for all of us nowadays. )
